When we think about bacteria and diseases, it starts with a sad story about Bubonic plague erupted in Eyan in spring of 1666. Bubonic plague is a highly fatal bacterial disease of the blood, spread by fleas and respiratory secretions. The rich people in the town of Eyan were the first to flee the town and soon the common folks started leaving. However, they knew that by doing so, they would spread the disease to new places. At this point village administrator pleaded not to leave the town and stay. A circle of stones was marked village limits, people from the adjacent town brought food and supplies to the barrier, leaving it self for the self-quarantined villagers. In the end 259 out of 350 residence, were succumbed to the plague. The pilgrims used to recite a rhyme during memorial services.

Ring a ring o' rosies,
A pocketful of posies,
Atishoo, Atishoo
We all fall down.

The ring of rosies refers to the rose shaped splotches on the chest and the armpits of plague victims. Posies were tiny flowers that people offered to drive off the evil spirits. Atishoo! Refers to sneezing that accompanied the disease.
