Assignment for Arindam Mukherjee

Language Arts…

ü      The Language Arts element will bring together this entire report.

First of all, please keep a journal or log of your travel. It can be simple, but should be complete sentences.

Here is an example

12/10/05          Today I spent time with my family and visited relatives. I saw… I heard… I felt…

Be sure to date each entry and try and write using your five senses (touch, taste, smell, hearing, seeing). Be as descriptive as possible! Ideally your journal will help you once you return from your trip and start piecing together your report. Feel free to take notes in your journal as you interview people or find out information. This can be informal writing. Be sure to reflect on all you are seeing!

ü      Your presentation should be written (essentially, if you are creating a PowerPoint, your report will just be a written version of what you plan on saying). There is no page limit for this. Please make it as complete as possible. You can make a PowerPoint and share pictures with us (this would really add to your words and what you are telling us about your trip). The more detail in the report, the better. Any artifacts you can bring back to share would greatly enhance this report. If you can bring back a newspaper or anything else you find important to your presentation, please feel free to incorporate them in your project.

Social Studies…

ü      Interview family and friends and talk to them about life in India. Ask them specifically about activities they engage in, sports, entertainment and cultural aspects. Find out what a typical day in India is like and how it might be different than the United States.

·        Once you interview family and friends, your job will be to present their information, including pictures if you can. You may even choose to compare and contrast how India differs from the United States based on your interviews.

Math…

ü      Money! What is the system for money in India? How much do things cost (some examples may include: a car, a newspaper, milk, bread, gasoline, and any other item you find interesting and can easily compare to prices in the United States)

·        You should present this information in the form of a chart, graph, or table. Compare the cost of things in India to the cost of things in the United States.

Science…

ü      Talk about the local weather. Are there seasons? What is the average temperature? Rainfall? What amount of sunlight does India receive? Are there any constellations that are well known? What phases of the moon do you see while present in India? Are there pollution issues? Where does the pollution come from? How does it impact the environment?

·        Present this information focusing on the questions above. Spend some time really talking about the pollution, if any, in India and where it comes from. Also, spend some time talking about temperatures, rainfall, and the rest of what is stated above. Keep track, if possible, the phases of the moon you see while present in India.

If you have any questions prior to leaving you may reach on Monday during team call in time at 630-894-4144. If you have access to email while in India, you can email any teacher from Team 7-2 with specific questions.

Have a great time! Enjoy yourself and learn a lot!
