The technologies are changing at a rapid scale. The knowledge on the  time-lines of the APIs would have a significant edge over the acquiring programming skills alone. Therefore, knowing what and how, should be supplemented with when and then.

I tried to keep pace with the technologies once acquired.  Knowing C/C++, VB/C++5.0,VB6/C++ , .Net  or Java -up, definitely provided me a better handle on the next generation software.

The server side managements have also significantly advanced. I found it a bit challenging for me to Keep Pace with Hard Ware and software growth side by side. And I mostly go back to the online documents provided by the vendors, and try to cross the hurdle which surfaced on my way.
